4. SHARPIE PENS - I know they aren't washable, but they work great for projects with watercolor projects, so it's necessary that they are NOT washable. ;)
5. PAINT BRUSHES - It's good to have a wide selection of paint brushes! Michaels sells some really great mixed sets for a great price, but my absolute favorite "go-to" are the Langnickel Big Kids' Choice Lil' Grippers Brush Sets. These are great for little fingers because of the grippers, but they are quality brushes and I use them too!!
6. PAPER - There are several types of paper that I always have on hand. Pacon Tru-Ray Construction Paper is great for lots of project, it holds up better than other brands. Canson Watercolor Paper Packs comes in various sizes. This is quality heavy paper that can hold up to tempera paint and watercolor. It works great with oil pastels too! Various packs of scrap book paper in different designs are great for collage projects.
7. CHALK PASTELS - Not a lot of parents like chalk pastels because they can cause a big mess, BUT trust me - there are lots of projects you can do without all the mess. TheseSargent Art 22-4124 Colored Square Chalk Pastels, 24 Countare quality chalk pastels and affordable. These will last you a long time and I guarantee your kiddo will love learning to blend with them! They are great to add accents over dried tempera pieces too!
